Installation questions and answers
General
How do I select the RoboZone signal type?
The default signal type is A.
2. In these cases, it is suggested to switch between signal types:
• Adjacent lawns – the distance between adjacent gardens is less than 2 m (6.5 ft)
– External interferences – the robot signal is influenced by foreign broadcasts
3. To initiate signal type selection, press and hold the ON/OFF button for at least 10 seconds until an orange wire indicator starts flashing:
5. Each press of the ON/OFF button changes the signal type:
6. To exit the signal mode, press the ON/OFF button for 10 seconds or wait 20 seconds until the system stops automatically:
7. Note that the selected signal type on the mower and on the RoboZone must be identical. For instructions on how to change the signal type on your mower, see the Operator’s Manual.
How do I install the Robomow?
STEP 1 – Plan ahead.
Read the Operator’s Manual and watch the “Robomow Installation and Operation” video before starting the installation. This video will help you find the best places for the base station, control panel and perimeter wire.
STEP 2 – Install the Base Station and Control Panel.
Position the base station as planned and install the control panel.
STEP 3 – Lay the perimeter wire.
Place the perimeter wire around the edge, using the RoboRuler to observe the required distances from the lawn edge.
Use the perimeter wire to mark off areas within the working zone that the Robomow is not allowed to enter (such as flower beds and ponds).
Use the supplied wire pins to fix the wire to the ground (within a few weeks, the wire will be completely overgrown and no longer visible).
STEP 4
– Complete the installation and connection of the perimeter wire.
Connect the perimeter wire to the base station and the base station to the control panel using the extension cord.
STEP 5 – The Robomow is now ready for use.
See the image below for more information on this procedure.
1. Base station and control panel:
– Generates a signal along the wire.
– Charge the Robomow battery.
2. Large trees: the Robomow can touch them, the objects do not need a perimeter wire.
3. The Robomow detects the signal and changes direction when it reaches the wire.
4. A tree surrounded by a ditch or flower beds requires a wire.
5. The perimeter wire acts as a virtual wall that only the Robomow can see.
How do I choose a signal type with RoboZone?
1. The default signal type is A.
2. A change of signal type is recommended in the following cases:
2.1. Adjacent lawns – The distance between adjacent lawns is less than 2 m.
2.2. External interference – The robot signal is affected by external transmissions.
3. To select the signal type, press and hold the ON/OFF button for at least 10 seconds until an orange cable indicator starts flashing.
4. The number of flashing characters (1/2/3) corresponds to the signal type (A / B / C): a single flashing character corresponds to signal type A, two flashing characters correspond to signal type B and three flashing characters correspond to signal type C. The flashing is repeated every 5 seconds.
5. Each time the ON/OFF button is pressed, the signal type is changed.
6. To exit the signal type selection mode:
Press the ON/OFF button for 10 seconds
Wait 20 seconds for the system to turn off automatically
7. Note that the selected signal type on the mower and on the RoboZone must be identical.
See the owner’s manual for instructions on how to change the signal type on your mower.
I have a separate area (lawn area) from my base zone. How do I install the perimeter wire so that Robomow can also mow this area?
If the separated zone is not connected to the base zone and Robomow cannot drive between these zones, you must define and install it as a separated zone.
If the separated area is small enough so that Robomow can mow the entire area in one operation, choose one of the following installations:
1. If possible, the separated area should be connected to the perimeter wire of the base zone.
2. If this option is not possible, you can use a perimeter switch (available as an accessory).
It may have a separate perimeter wire.
3. If the separated area cannot be mown in one operation, an additional base station (optional accessory) must be installed in the separated area.
Location Base station
Where is the best place to install the base station on my lawn?
Robomow’s base station should be placed along the perimeter wire where the wire loop begins and ends.
Other aspects to bear in mind when setting up your base station are:
Place the base station on relatively level ground. Do not place it on an incline

- Place it in a shaded area. This will extend the battery life.
- Make sure that the base station is not visible from the road.
How to install an external base station (not applicable for RS models)
RX Models:
The external installation of the base station for RX models is done by placing the beginning of the wire up to 60 cm outside the lawn. This will determine how far from the lawn the base station will be installed. The base station should be aligned with the furthest edge of the lawn. The edge of the lawn should be relatively flat so that the Robomow can easily drive into the base station:
RC Models:
Near a corner?
Here the base station is located on one of the corners of the lawn, as shown in the illustration below:
- Choose a cornerwhere you want to place the base station outside the area of the lawn. Note that you should not place the base station within 3 metres of a corner.
- Place the base station so that its front edge touches the edge of the lawn, or touches it slightly.
- Lay the perimeter wire as shown in the illustration on the right, at least 10 cm beyond the base station and then back to the lawn, 10 cm away from the other wire.
- The base station may be moved slightly to the right to allow the mower to enter the base station easily.
- Later you can adjust the position of the base station to allow a smooth entry.
Outside the lawn.
NOTE: For specific models, this can only be set using the Robomow app.
- Choose a place outside the lawn where you want to set up the Robomow.
- The path between the lawn and the external location should be flat, without any differences in level, so that the Robomow will not get stuck and can follow the wire smoothly.
- The surface between the lawn and the base station must be firm (e.g. a path or hard ground), without sand or stones, to prevent the Robomow from slipping and getting stuck.
- The area between the lawn and the base station must be free of obstacles and objects.
- Lay the wire as shown in the illustration below:
- Narrow path of 50 centimetres width.
- Square perimeter island with 30 cm edges.
- Island starts at 50 cm distance from the perimeter wire.
- Keep a distance of 10 cm between the perimeter wire and the island on both sides.
- The distance between the front of the base station and the perimeter wire should be at least 1.5m and AT MOST 4m.
Does Robomow operate on a sloping lawn?
Yes. Robomow can mow areas with a slope of up to 20 degrees or 35% (35 cm rise per 1 metre) within the working area. The image below provides more details on how Robomow mows slopes.
Distance
What dimensions must be observed for narrow areas to RX models with sub-areas?
What dimensions must be observed for narrow areas to sub-areas Loopo S series?
How do I install the perimeter wire along a wall or high obstacle?
RC model
If the edge is sloping (max. 10% is allowed) or if it has high obstacles at the edge, such as a wall or a fence, the perimeter wire should be laid at a distance of 28 cm from the obstacle. Use the longer distance of the RoboRuler to measure the distance between the wire and a wall.
RS model
If the edge is sloping (max. 15% is allowed) or if it has high obstacles at the edge, such as a wall or a fence, the perimeter wire should be laid at a distance of 40 cm from the obstacle. Use the longer distance of the RoboRuler to measure the distance between the wire and a wall.
How should I install the perimeter wire along a flat area, a flower bed, a small difference in level (no more than 1 cm) or a small staircase (up to 5 cm)?
RC/MC Model
If the working area is adjacent to a flat area, a flower bed, a small difference in level (not more than 1 cm) or a small staircase (up to 5 cm), the perimeter wire should be 20 cm inside the working area. This prevents the wheels from digging in while driving. Use the RoboRuler’s shorter distance to measure the distance between the wire and the edge of the lawn.
RS/MS model
If the working area is adjacent to a flat area, a flower bed, a small difference in level (not more than 1 cm) or a small staircase (up to 5 cm), the perimeter wire should be 32 cm inside the working area. This prevents the wheels from driving into a ditch. Use the RoboRuler’s shorter distance to measure the distance between the wire and the edge of the lawn.
Obstacle
What is the minimum distance between two adjacent island installations?
RC/MC Model
Keep a distance of at least 1 metre between adjacent islands.
1. 2 wires under the same pin
2. Perimeter Wire Position
3. Perimeter Wire
4. Min. distance between islands: 1 m. Otherwise they must be demarcated together as one island
5. Direction of installation: Clockwise around an obstacle.
RS/MS model
Keep a distance of at least 1.5 metres between the wires of the islands that are next to each other.
1. 2 wires under the same pin
2. Perimeter Wire Position
3. Perimeter Wire
4. Min. distance between islands: 1.5 m. Otherwise, they must be demarcated together as one island
5. Direction of installation: Clockwise around an obstacle.
What is the minimum distance between the island installations and the perimeter wire?
RC/MC Model
The minimum distance from the island installation to the perimeter wire should be 1 m.
- The minimum distance from the perimeter wire to the protected area should be 28 cm.
- If you need to protect a thin object, set the minimum radius of the island to 35 cm.
RS/MS model
The minimum distance from the island installation to the perimeter wire should be 1.5 m.
- The minimum distance from the perimeter wire to the protected area should be 32 cm.
- If you need to protect a thin object, set the minimum radius of the island to 45 cm.
